00/00/0000 - RESCCUEicp – estudo cooperativo em craniectomia descompressiva em trauma craniano |
|

The aim of the study is to evaluate the role of decompressive craniectomy in head-injured patients with raised and refractory intracranial pressure. The study is a randomised prospective trial funded by the UK Medical Research Council and run from Academic Neurosurgery in Cambridge. Patients in whom the ICP is not controlled (i.e. > 25 mmHg) by medical measures are randomised to either decompressive craniectomy or continued medical treatment (with the option of barbiturate therapy). The study is progressing well- we have now recruited 174 patients from 28 centers in 9 countries world-wide. The target is 600 patients. In Latin America, Lima have recruited a patient and we are keen for more centers to join the study. We are able to provide each center with modest funding of UK £500 per patient randomised to help with administration. There is a website for the study www.RESCUEicp.com and I enclose a powerpoint presentation which sets out the background and provides an overview of the trial.
We would very much the participation of Latin American centers in the study and would be grateful for any help you can give us.
With best wishes,
Peter Hutchinson.
